County Police Get Laptop Grant

St. Louis County Police get a grant to provide patrol car laptops.

St. Louis County Police will receive $90,837 in grant funding for patrol car laptops.  The laptops will allow officers to perform routine tasks in the field.  Funding is provided by the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program. (JAG)

Breakdown STL and Little Patriots Embraced

Little Patroits Embraced serves militart families during deployment, help with the hardships should their hero come home injured, or when they have lost a loved one. The primary focus is on children. Red Cross Blood Drive and Mary Ryder Home

American Red Cross Biomedical Services plays a critical role in our nation’s health care system. It is the largest single supplier of blood and blood products in the United States, collecting and processing more than 40 percent of the blood supply and distributing it to some 3,000 hospitals and transfusion centers nationwide. The Red Cross also plays a leading role in protecting the safety of donors and patients and increasing the availability of blood. It has been among the first to help develop and implement testing for infectious diseases and is frequently the single major contributor to clinical trials to improve blood safety. Throughout the Metropolitan St. Louis area, many Seniors are living a fragile existence and are just one medical crisis or accident away from being unable to live independently. These Seniors, struggling in poverty, have few assisted living options—and nowhere to turn for help!

The Gateway Area Chapter of the National MS Society has many events throughout the year and one big one is Bike MS: Express Scripts Getaway Ride 2011. It will happen Saturday and Sunday, September 10-11, 2011 and starts at the Boone Country Fairgrounds in Columbia, MO. Over 3,000 cyclists will raise more than $2.5 million to help address the challenges of living with MS, advance cutting edge research and advocate to improve access to health services for people with MS and other disabilities. The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and Athletes & Entertainers Circle of Influence

Cystic Fibrosis or CF is a life-threatening genetic disease affecting approximately 30,000 children and adults in the United States. CF impairs respiratory and digestive functions, making eating and breathing a challenge. But with the help of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, the outlook for people with CF continues to improve. The Gateway Chapter of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation serves the CF community, which includes people with CF, their families and volunteers in Missouri and Western Illinois. Coming up on August 8th is the 42nd anniversary of the Jack Buck Golf Classic at Norwood Hills Country Club and to date the Classic has raised over $7 million for Cystic Fibrosis research, patient services, public information and education. Athletes & Entertainers - Circle of Influence is formed exclusively for charitable purposes. In conjunction with professional athletes and entertainers, the corporation's activities will include but will not be limited to conducting special events and or celebrity appearances, organizing youth camps, coordinating funding initiatives in order to support local communities in which athletes and entertainers live an/ or work. The event coming up is the "Man to Man" Celebrity Wheelchair Basketball Benefit at Harris-Stowe State University on Saturday August 13th at 4pm. Beneficiaries include Lonnie Maclin who is a former outfielder for the St. Louis Cardinals and recently suffered a debilitating stroke. Kenny Lee who is a former basketball plater at Harris-Stowe State University and played high school ball for Chaminade. Kenny became paralyzed after a serious car accident. TouchPoint Autism Services and Missouri Warrior Writers Project

TouchPoint Autism Services is a pioneer in the field.  In 1970, when a federal grant expired, Washington University ended their  Social Exchange Laboratory - a program that worked primarily with children with autism spectrum disorders.  The families the program served raised about $10,000 and TouchPoint (formerly known as Judevine Center for Autism), opened its doors as a school for children with autism in 1971. Missouri’s professional writing community is reaching out to our state’s veterans to give them an opportunity to reflect on their service.  In partnership with the Missouri Humanities Council, the Missouri Warrior Writer Project is helping soldiers and their families write about their wartime experiences.  A distinguished panel of Missouri authors and poets is being brought together to conduct workshops at Jefferson Barracks VA Hospital, on university and college campuses, and with Family Readiness Units statewide.  In addition, Missouri Writers’ Guild writers are contributing educational resources that help our warriors and their families write about their experiences.
